How Important is Truth?

What is truth?
Is truth relative?

These are some of the big questions
of life we face each and every day.

If I have one standard for truth
and you have another,
who is right?

Is it truth for both of us in the same way?

If it seems right to you to "steal my bread"
does that make it right?

I could list a multitude of inflammatory
issues here....things that divide even the church.
But I choose not to.
Instead lets just look to the source of
truth and then apply that in our own hearts
and daily lives.

This was a sign at the Creation Museum
in Kentucky.

Does it ever seem to you that this is the case?
Have we (the church)  decided that truth
is optional?
We don't want to stir or muddy
the waters?
Why offend?

A few verses that speak about the subject....

For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”  18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.  Romans 1:17-19

5 It (love) does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

4 This matter arose because some false believers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves. 5 We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.
6 As for those who were held in high esteem—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism—they added nothing to my message.

14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.  Ephesians 4:14-16

Truth is not subjective.
One thing of substance cannot be truth for me
and the opposite truth for you.
Our basis for truth must be,
can only be,
the Word of God.

Do not ask "What does it say ....to you"?
Ask, "What does it say?"

The Word does not change.
If it was the truth when Jesus
walked on this earth it is still truth today.
We need to be very careful not
to adopt the world's standard of truth.....
"Whatever........."

We can be sure of truth.
We have the answers.
Seek them out.
Stand secure in your knowledge of truth.

Sometimes these subjects come up
as a result of discussions in our own home.
Know that I am not preaching at anyone
out there.
I am reiterating things that have been said
here this week.
We needed this reminder.
There is no better way to know the
will of God than to read His Word.
To be daily in touch with the truths
found there.

His Word:

brings comfort
convicts
strengthens us
informs
changes us
conforms us to His image

That's my two cents today.
Spend it as you wish!

Wonderful post! Truth in today's world is sometimes rare. My heart ached when I knew parents of my students were lying for their child just so they wouldn't have to pay the consequences for making a bad decision. I like this saying. . . "If you tell the truth you don't have to remember what you said."

Hugs,
Carol

Great post! We all need to have these discussions in our home:) I think that it is healthy to talk about topics that are important! Telling the truth is just always easier!

Have a blessed day my friend! HUGS!

Excellent word today! Society may change, but God, His truths, and His Word...never!

That sign says a lot. Truth is truth and no human holds the key to all of it. That's my two cents for the day. :D

Have a delightful Sunday. Hope that it's less humid.

Wow, Becky, you do make us think, don't you? Wonderful post!

Each of us knows the truth...bending it won't work in God's Eyes. Some of us haven't learned that yet.

Happy and blessed Sunday.
