Bad Patient will Get Crown

A Dentist and Dental Hygienist Prepare for an Examination by Joel Sartore
A Dentist and Dental Hygienist Prepare for an Examination

I was a dental assistant.
We were an office that specialized
in Root Canals...Endodontics.

I always felt for our patients
and was great with them.
Because they were the patient
and going through something
unpleasant.

I, however, am a terrible patient.
The normal novocain makes my heart
race, so they have to use alternative
stuff that never works as well.

I grip the arms of the chair as if
that will help.

I look suspiciously at all of the
instruments to see if they are freshly
autoclaved and properly sterile.

I read in between the lines of what the
Dentist and Assistant are saying and assume
they are secretly laughing at me.

I hate being the patient.

Today I will begin the process of a crown
that has been recommended for the past five
or more years. Thankfully this tooth has
not broken...but as a sufferer of TMJ after
a bad experience with wisdom teeth removal
I do not love having my mouth open for long
periods.

Whine...whine...whine...that is me today.

But, it is time.
We are going to do it.
Today, should you hear screaming from
the general direction of Lancaster County
...it is not me...

I just whimper!

Hope you have no dental work today.

Love Ya!

To the Dentist...groan!

You would think that a former dental assistant would at least care enough about her teeth to not mind the twice a year trip to the dentist to maintain them.

Nope!

I hate it!
With a passion.

There is nothing fun about going somewhere to be tortured, told what you are doing wrong and have it highly suggested that you should sell off your children in favor of extreme dental work...crowns...

I do not enjoy it!

I remember those patients in our office long ago who were devastated by the cost of the root canals, that was all our office did. They would be finding out the balance on their credit cards to see if there was enough there to pay for the procedure. Then I would sit by their side for the next hour and a half and gently care for them as they endured having their mouth open, my suction device, the rubber dam and the dentist's hands all in their mouth. Poor, poor patients. It was all the same day after day so I did not think as much about it at the time...however...years have passed. I am the patient who has to shell out the money and put up with the achy jaw after long procedures. Not fun!

Yesterday there was a reminder call that Mikey was scheduled for his cleaning.
Oops! I told he and Jonathan they could do a last minute sleepover before school starts again ...these are horribly misnamed...no sleep! I informed him that I would be picking him up at 9:30 AM to take him to the D-e-n-t-i-s-t.

This did not go over well.

He said something about biting off the dentists fingers, one at a time.

I don't think he would really do this...but the assistant in me felt great fear at the very thought!

I made another phone call and offered myself instead.
You know, like a sacrificial lamb.
I did not want to do it.
I hate going to the dentist.
But, I love my son more.

A few weeks ago, I had gotten a reminder call about my appointment. Somehow I got myself out of that one.

Now I will go. In Mikey's place.

Poor Me.

Lucky Him.

Did I Do That?

Remember Erkle, that kid on TV who would break things or cause a problem then ask in the most irritating of voices, "Did I do that?"

Well, I made a mistake this morning. I woke up when I should have been leaving for a dentist appointment. Oops.

I hate getting my teeth cleaned but I did not do this on purpose. We had a huge weekend and I was exhausted! It is cloudy and therefore comfortably dark for sleeping.

The receptionist at the dentist's office gave me the opportunity to come right in...up the road a half an hour...I wonder what they would think if I came in like I am right now.
It is not pretty!

Maybe it is time to find a dentist a little closer to home....

Miss Paula has honored me with an award.
Check it out!

Thank you, Miss Paula!

The rules for receiving this award are:
1) Put the logo on your blog
2) Add a link to the person who awarded you.
3) Nominate at least 7 other blogs.
4) Add links to those blogs on yours.
5) Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs.

So I want to nominate some favorites of mine:

Given that some have already been nominated I will skip over them and nominate these fine friends:

Robin, at Bittersweet Punkin, is another homeschool mom who shares bits and pieces of her day. I love Robin's blogging generosity and friendship as she often mentions others or is caring for her blogging friends.
Deena, at Can I Be Pretty in Pink, is winning a battle against cancer. This blog is about so much more than cancer. It is the story of a woman who is strong, loving and joyful.
Terri, at Lakewood Manor, was one of the first bloggers to encourage me when I started nearly a year ago. As a school principal Terri is a busy woman. Check out her blog to see her new furry family member.
Melissa, at Elijah's Adventures just moved to Ireland. From Florida to Ireland, in one crazy day. So glad this "internet thing" works across the pond! Love seeing what you and that sweet Elijah are up to.
Bethany, at Red Yarn is one of the most talented artists I have seen. She can draw people so well. My brother who is an artist says that people are the hardest to draw. I enjoy Bethany's blog and love that we live in the same county even though I have never met her.
Gayla, at Oatmeal and Whimsey has seen a lot of change in her life this year. She is adapting. Keep writing and showing those great holiday pictures. I love how you embrace even the smallest holidays. Love it!
Lady Jane, who will have to remain Private...but... love ya! You are an inspiration and are so creative in your writings.

Thanks friends for your awesome blogs.

Looks like I might get to go along to Mom and Chelsea's riding lessons. Should be very entertaining. Since I'm obviously NOT at the dentist. So... better get ready to head off to Creekside Cottage for some good clean laughs....oops, Did I say that?
Have an awesome day!!
