For a couple of months we have been
working on a fun project for the church
web site.
Rocketry....
Silliness and then photos of us actually
having a great time launching rockets
together.
I hope you'll take a minute to check this
out. It was both harder and easier than I
thought it would be. Easier because my friend
B. actually manipulated the silly photos so
I didn't have to take a crash course on
Photoshop. Harder because of all of the
hyperlinking and changing around of the order
of the photos over the time we were working on it.
Here you go...click the Launch button!

The Church that Plays Together....

Bet you can't figure out what in the world this is about....

This is a rocket that Mike built.
The first and the second photos came together under the artistic hand of my friend, B. to become this....
Just another zany photo for the church website. I will very shortly be compiling a section on this website that is all about our Pastor's love of rocketry. He and the guys absolutely love to build and launch rockets. It is a bonding thing, I guess.
I just think it is hysterical to see what Mike and B. have come up with.
The night we were at the church taking photos against the green screen poor Mom nearly hurt herself laughing at us.
It did look totally ridiculous...but isn't this fun?
It has no Spiritual value that I can think of...but it is fun and reflects that we are a church that plays together. These pictures were from a rocket launch a week ago Sunday.

I did not go to this rocket launch because I stayed at the house to direct people to the launch site if they showed up at our place. However, I have seen enough of these to know how much fun was had by all involved. The only negative thing I heard was that it was getting cold. That happens this time of the year...and it makes for perfectly blue skies that make the rockets look great!
At least that is what I have heard...many times!
We have found it so important for there to be activities that capture the attention of multiple age brackets. This is one that is loved by young and old. It is a great activity to bring the family together and is also an outreach to the community. It allows someone to come and get to know us without being threatened by their first exposure being inside the church building. I imagine that must be threatening for some...being raised in the church it is hard for me to relate to that.
Anyway...the guys do this mostly because they love it. They have no other motives. I try to justify it and make it have value because I just don't build and launch rockets for fun...not my thing...and that is O.K.
Blessings on your day!

Boys and Rockets Delay Fall Nesting Plans
There is a project happening here
and you are the first to know about
it. Pastor Mike has an idea for
our church web site that involves
his love of all things flight related.
He has a degree in Aerospace Engineering.
That was what he was studying when
he got saved in college.
He worked for a company that designs
helicopters for a few
years before he headed to seminary.
We are in the process of making a series
of pages that will have a sci-fi feel to them
and should be fun.
The hope is to do this using the regular
rockets that the guys launch regularly.
I will be learning a lot about Photoshop
to morph the photos.
Then inside these pages we will post
regular pictures of the rocket launches
and the times we fly the remote controlled
airplanes.
Just more of the fun times our church has
together.
So anyway, with this in mind, Warren, Mike and the boys went
out the other evening and launched a couple
of rockets.

With some rocket haze hanging in the background the most important thing to note here is how coordinated Mikey is with his rocket and shoelaces...lol!

Jonathan prepares his rocket.

As so often happens for us the rocket returns damaged.
Bummer!

That must make it time to launch Mikey's "Dragonfly".
Yes, it does have a name.

Unfortunately, his rocket also sustained damage.
The grass is too dry and the ground too hard
for easy landings...
Time to pack up and head home.

I'll be working on the rocket pages.
You'll be the first to know when they are available at the web site.
It strikes me that this could be one of the reasons my home is not yet
joining all of you wonderful people in the Fall Nesting Party.
Well, I have been filling my head with lots and lots of Music related to Thanksgiving and Fall. The leaves are falling outside our home. The
weather is certainly going to bring more down today.
I truly want to make my nest all fall-like.
Hmmm...I'll work on that today....
Blessings on your day.

Failure and Success
This picture shows an actual event. In 2005 we were at Potter County for our usual Labor Day vacation and were shooting rockets. As you know by now this is popular at our house. The boys put together a styrofoam plane and a rocket engine just to see what would happen. It was crazy to watch this thing go up into the air and then zoom in a crazy pattern, nearly taking out our dog, Sally, the husky we had then. She later died...wonder if the fear took years off her life, poor thing. Anyway, back to the story...the plane crashed to the ground and burned!!!
My brother, the artist, had his camera on the whole thing and for Christmas that year we received this poster. I love it! Really, these are the actual pictures from that exciting event and I think that the caption says it all!
