Living Room Project #6

Oh this was such a fun and creative
week in the living room. Some of you
do these things regularly but I tend
to get too busy with friends, kids,
church...you name it.

You may remember that one of the goals
of this project was to include Warren.

Well, you'll be quite proud of me.
He and I went to Kirkland's this week.
We shopped well together...

While I looked he sat in one of their
comfy chairs and guarded my choices.

At one point he may have been sleeping,
I'm not sure.

Yes, I'm laughing.
But, you see,
he really just doesn't care.

He was glad that I was using a
gift card that Mom gave me for
Christmas!

So, now to show you what I got...
Most of these items came from the
"as is" final clearance.

Such as this canister
with a
missing lid.



It has this fun pedestal and is the
exact color I wanted.
Original price?
$80.00.
My cost?
$6.00
Oh Yeah!
That's what I'm talking about!
This would make the perfect base
for a Spring bouquet.




The silk flowers were on sale for
$2.99 per stem. I got three of
each for a total of $27.



Remember, I'm using a gift card...
so it is all pre-paid.



You may remember the candle stick that
I previously had on the Entertainment
Center? Well, they had two more on the
clearance rack.


Initially I thought they were different
sizes than the one I already had.
However, after paying $4.oo each for
these I found that the shorter one is the
twin to mine. Then I wondered how I could
stagger the heights.

It came to me!



Different candle heights. Some of you
are just thinking it is weird that I had
to even think about it. But, you know,
if you don't use your decorating skills you
can actually lose them.
I've been so out of practice.

The candles were in the clearance
section at JC Penney.
I don't remember exactly
how much they were but the three of them
came to about $18.

My family could not believe that I was
buying candles. I mean we have more
candles in this house than you can believe
but...Sorry guys, pillars and
soy are not compatible.
It is just a fact.

Why was I at JC Penney?
To make an exchange, of course.
The window scarf that I could just never be
happy with had to go back.
Manuela whose advice I just had to listen
to had suggested panels on each side.
That sounded like a great option.
Aren't you glad Manuela decided to blog
again? I missed her while she took a
long break.

Sure enough panels were available in the same design
as the valances. So, gaining $21 in the process,
I have added them to the window.
I love how they soften the whole thing and help to
tone down the wood trim that was so very harsh.

It is getting softer.
I'm liking it!

The bad news?
I didn't get the Entertainment Center
emptied yet and while I did buy a new lampshade
it didn't fit. So, I'll be returning
that one and continue to look. Sad thing
is the one I found was just $5.
But, I would rather get what really works.

The Living Room Project #2

There is nothing like giving a deadline
to make me do something. Yep, it is a
trick I play on myself or I find that
other things crowd in and
I just never get around to it.

So, just a reminder of what the project
is. I must figure out "My style" and
work to make my living room reflect it.

Last week we looked at several living
room examples from allposters.com.

There were two that I really gravitated
to. They were this one...

and this one.


Living Room Chair with Table and Blue Rug

The first one caught my eye because I tend
to love large open spaces and formal furniture.

But do I?

Because, honestly that last one is so what
I long for and it is not formal in the least.

Perhaps I just need to visit that first look
at museums and make my home comfy and cozy.




Well this is what ours looks like right now.
But the changes are going to begin very soon.
Initially, I am not shopping for anything.
Our first project together is to decide what
stays and what goes. Some things are not
negotiable but others I am willing to let
you decide.

Next week I will show you some changes that
I am about to make and ask your opinion on
some things I am thinking about.

For the record, the dog crate is temporary and
a recent addition. Just while Bandit is learning
the rules around here...you know, like her potty
spot is that cold windy place outside...and that
Mommy likes to just sit sometimes not stop her
from chewing up all kinds of things.

The boxes behind the blue chair are
candle inventory that should be going
out in early March.

So...Please be honest...
...but kind. I bruise easily...
