Hooked on Pottery

If there was one thing that I said I collect
it might be pottery. I do not consider
myself an avid collector of anything,
and yet I find myself picking up a piece
here or a piece there.

One exception to this is my Williamsburg Pottery.
At some point over the past years I began bringing
home a piece of this pottery from every
family vacation there. We used to celebrate every
other Thanksgiving in Williamsburg with extended
family. It was fun.

They are small pieces but they have a special place
in our restroom on a shelf that is painted the color
of the pottery on a wall that is also similarly colored.
It really makes the blue design pop.

There are also the pieces picked up at a
yard sale. These live on the top of my
Corner Cupboard. For the most part they
live a pretty lonely life...but on more
occasions than anyone knows my eyes rest
on these pieces and a smile involuntarily
comes to my face.

I hope you have things in your home
that make you happy just at a glance.
They don't have to cost a fortune
to please your sense of comfort and
homemaking.

The final piece I am going to show you
today was inherited. Warren's Grandmother
had this in her home and it was given to
us when her home was sold.

The pottery is fun.

What it represents is the fun of vacation
with family, simple homemaking
and those we miss.

That is priceless...in my book!

Have a super day!

I do hope you'll go over
to Julia's Hooked on Houses Blog
and see what others are Hooked On
today.

I especially like the display atop your cupboard. The blue against the wood is striking. I've always felt pottery adds a real homey feeling to our decor. Jane T.

Blue always brings a smile.

Your plant is a peace lily. Put it where it can get some diffused sunlight, and it'll bloom for you!

I LOVE pottery! I have a thing for black/white pottery, and I use them functionally when I can - like to hold pens, kitchen gadgets, etc. Great post!

I love the Williamsburg pottery too. I also love the Eldreth Pottery here in Lancaster County. I don't really collect it, but I buy usable pieces!

I love your pottery! I find myself drawn to it, too, though I don't often buy it.

I love all the blues of yours, too. So pretty!

Lovely pieces, since you have looked at my blog many times...You may have seen my blue and white dishes, so would that they are my favorite. (and Yes, Becky, --as you posted on my blog---it would have been a great day to go to Longwood! I still have my Longwood pics that I didn't even take off my camera yet, I guess I should go do that...

We honeymooned in Willimsburg around Christmas long ago but we weren't thinking too much about pottery a the time. Warren's Grandmother's is wonderful to me. Don't know why but it is.
