Bad Patient will Get Crown

A Dentist and Dental Hygienist Prepare for an Examination by Joel Sartore
A Dentist and Dental Hygienist Prepare for an Examination

I was a dental assistant.
We were an office that specialized
in Root Canals...Endodontics.

I always felt for our patients
and was great with them.
Because they were the patient
and going through something
unpleasant.

I, however, am a terrible patient.
The normal novocain makes my heart
race, so they have to use alternative
stuff that never works as well.

I grip the arms of the chair as if
that will help.

I look suspiciously at all of the
instruments to see if they are freshly
autoclaved and properly sterile.

I read in between the lines of what the
Dentist and Assistant are saying and assume
they are secretly laughing at me.

I hate being the patient.

Today I will begin the process of a crown
that has been recommended for the past five
or more years. Thankfully this tooth has
not broken...but as a sufferer of TMJ after
a bad experience with wisdom teeth removal
I do not love having my mouth open for long
periods.

Whine...whine...whine...that is me today.

But, it is time.
We are going to do it.
Today, should you hear screaming from
the general direction of Lancaster County
...it is not me...

I just whimper!

Hope you have no dental work today.

Love Ya!

Just a vision exam!

I think it is so funny that you a former hygenist hate going to the dentist....

Oh, friend, I empathize with you on this one. I HATE going to the dentist. A few years ago, I had seven done at one time.......I fully understand. I will say a special prayer for you today; I practice my Lamaze breathing MORE at the dentist than I did thru labor and delivery!!! Ha.

Mrs. Rabe...I can handle the eye exam...just don't care for that nasty puff of air at the end...

Suzanne...seven at one time? Yikes! Makes mine seem like a cinch!

Jill,
My Mikey is the one exception that I know of. He has perfect teeth and loves the positive feedback he recieves from the dental staff.

Sigh...

The answer to your question is I got the mulch at Agway

I feel the same way you do about going to the dentist! I've had two teeth pulled in the past couple of years, then bridges. Not pleasant at all!

Hugs,
Carol

So we're a little paranoid, are we? LOL! I feel your pain...yes, I do! I always feel as if the dentist and the assistant are laughing at me. And, further, I just discovered that my dentist just pulled a tooth for my mother last week, but he sends me to a specialist for big bucks. What does THAT mean? Hmmm...

Hi, my name is Karen and I'm a dental-phobic, too.

I grip the chair, too, to the point of making my arms tired and achy by the time it's over.

Clarence, OTOH, once slept through a root canal. We are clearly a case of opposites attract.

I did get a little giggle out of the idea that you used to be a hygenist. Seems like that would make it a little easier, but I guess you know too much to make it easier.

Back in the dark ages (I'm ancient) they didn't always use novicane and such when performing fillings or even extractions. At least the dentist *we* were forced to go to didn't. hmfph.

Now though, I have the kindest, most incredibly gentle and understanding dentist. My last crown was a piece of cake. Unbelievable. I didn't even cry! I still hate dentists though and he knows it. ;o)
