Funny How These Things Happen

Have you seen the new
web site from Glenn Beck?

He wants all of us to take
our eyes off ourselves and
remember the sense of community
we felt in the days following
the terrorist attacks in September
of 2001.

Not a bad idea.

It doesn't take all that long
for those of us who were not
directly impacted to drift back
to our old way of doing things and
lack of concern for those outside
our circle of influence.

What happened in the days following
September 11, 2001 was definitely a
different reaction than is generally
felt in our world.

We united and flags were waved.
People lined up
to give blood. We were one...against
the evil that so audaciously came in
and made a scar.

Totally unplanned or coordinated, I have
been reading helter-skelter through Karen
Kingsbury's fiction series about the Baxter
Family.

I simply borrow the next one available at the
Library. They have all been out of order,
which adds its own challenge as I have to
remember where I am in the timeline.
Currently, I am reading Remember,
an earlier book that I had missed.

Anyway, this week I am at the point in
time in this book just as the Twin Towers Fall
and the clean-up begins. The raw emotions
from that time come rolling back and it is in
the midst of this that Glenn Beck comes out
with this 912 Project.

Coincidence??

I don't know, but I do know that if we are to
survive as a Nation we must return to our foundational
strengths. Those of caring about our neighbor,
working hard, sharing our faith, taking personal
responsibility rather than playing the victim...
and so much more.

From the Website...

9 Principles

1. America Is Good.

2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
God “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the external rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” from George Washington’s first Inaugural address.

3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
Honesty “I hope that I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider to be the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.” George Washington

4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
Marriage/Family “It is in the love of one’s family only that heartfelt happiness is know. By a law of our nature, we cannot be happy without the endearing connections of a family.” Thomas Jefferson

5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
Justice “I deem one of the essential principles of our government… equal and exact justice to all men of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political.” Thomas Jefferson

6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
Life, Liberty, & The Pursuit of Happiness “Everyone has a natural right to choose that vocation in life which he thinks most likely to give him comfortable subsistence.” Thomas Jefferson

7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
Charity “It is not everyone who asketh that deserveth charity; all however, are worth of the inquiry or the deserving may suffer.” George Washington

8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
On your right to disagree “In a free and republican government, you cannot restrain the voice of the multitude; every man will speak as he thinks, or more properly without thinking.” George Washington

9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
Who works for whom? “I consider the people who constitute a society or a nation as the source of all authority in that nation.” Thomas Jefferson

12 Values

Honesty
Reverence
Hope
Thrift
Humility
Charity
Sincerity
Moderation
Hard Work
Courage
Personal Responsibility
Gratitude

Clear and concise.
What we need to focus on
to return to the strength on which this
Nation was founded.

I like Glen Beck's ideals. I haven't been watching FOX lately because I've been busy helping Kari with the baby. I appreciate you sharing this info about the 912 project. Our country certainly needs something like this!

Blessings,
Carol

I'm back to ask, how on earth did you teach your cat to stay off the table???? Everytime I fix supper and turn around there he is sitting on my new table looking at me like I owe him something. I need help in this department. A squirt bottle does well, if I remember it!

I honestly couldn't tell you except that from the time they were kittens that was a big no-no and they were moved and told "NO!" in my toughest stern voice if ever on the table or counter.

They get so much positive attention otherwise that they seem to understand when I am very upset with them.

Good luck with your kitty.

This is a truly inspiring post. I think it's always cool the way God works through serendipity and "coincidence." Hugs!
