Outdoor Photo Shoot

Note: This was supposed to be an Outdoor Wednesday Post
but my day was really busy and I never linked it
up or posted it.

However, it does represent one subject that is
consuming many hours of my time.

One of the hardest things I do with the candles is try to take photos of them. I don't know why it is so hard...but let me say that I have great respect for anyone who is good at photos for magazines, etc.
I really don't know why it is so difficult, except that when I take photos for anything else I can be more artistic, cutting here or there. With this it really is about seeing what it looks like so you don't want to zoom or cut too much.
Argghh so there go my favorite tools.

Well, then there is the issue with light. Don't want a glare, but need bright even lighting. So, needing to make a brochure by the end of the week I headed outside with candles, some muslin and my fall leaves. Some of the pictures came out ok.

Sometimes a bit of editing and adding of background is called for.

This is all new to me so I am learning piece by piece. The blue filled in over the muslin in an unusual but soft way.

Now, You don't have to feel too badly for me. I have a very dear friend who has offered to help me with this project. She is fluent in Photoshop. Yesterday I emailed many photos and I'll bet she is at work on making them lovely.

With every session I learn more.
Learning is a good thing.

What are you learning about lately?

The photos turned out beautifully, Becky!

I have a hard time taking most pictures. I just keep trying and with my digital camera, if it does not turn out right, delete and try again. Don't give up.

I can see why it could be challenging...all those angles on the bottles...but I do love their shape. Will you show us what your friend, fluent in Photoshop, will do? Ha! I loved that line.

What have I been learning? Nothing nearly as pleasant, I'm afraid.

The way you turned the white background to blue really brought out the candle in the picture.
I agree, it can be a challenge!

The blue made for a very cool effect!

Your pictures aren't bad. Taking pictures of inanimate objects and working with lighting is usually the first thing you learn in a photography class. When I taught photography at the co-op, it's what we started with. It's not as much fun to take photos of inanimate objects. However, once you have them arranged the way you want them, you don't have to worry about them moving! lol
