The Living Room Project #2

There is nothing like giving a deadline
to make me do something. Yep, it is a
trick I play on myself or I find that
other things crowd in and
I just never get around to it.

So, just a reminder of what the project
is. I must figure out "My style" and
work to make my living room reflect it.

Last week we looked at several living
room examples from allposters.com.

There were two that I really gravitated
to. They were this one...

Grand Salon
Grand Salon

and this one.

Living Room Chair with Table and Blue Rug
Living Room Chair with Table and Blue Rug

The first one caught my eye because I tend
to love large open spaces and formal furniture.

But do I?

Because, honestly that last one is so what
I long for and it is not formal in the least.

Perhaps I just need to visit that first look
at museums and make my home comfy and cozy.

Well this is what ours looks like right now.
But the changes are going to begin very soon.
Initially, I am not shopping for anything.
Our first project together is to decide what
stays and what goes. Some things are not
negotiable but others I am willing to let
you decide.
Does that sound like fun?
Will you help me?

Thursday will be our Living Room Project Day.
I do hope this is fun and not stressful!
Next week I will show you some changes that
I am about to make and ask your opinion on
some things I am thinking about.

For the record, the dog crate is temporary and
a recent addition. Just while Bandit is learning
the rules around here...you know, like her potty
spot is that cold windy place outside...and that
Mommy likes to just sit sometimes not stop her
from chewing up all kinds of things.

The boxes behind the blue chair are
candle inventory that should be going
out in early March.

So...Please be honest...
...but kind. I bruise easily...

This should be fun!

I think the second picture does have formal furniture, but it is put together in a casual way. Just look at the fringe and also the legs on that gorgeous table! Formal. So maybe you do like formal - just put together in a casual way. Your family is very relaxed and casual so that would work for you.

I would empty the room of everything, even off the walls, and think about new ways to rearrange the furniture. The traffic patterns in the room need to be considered too for furniture arrangement! Oh I love this kind of thing....I know you do too!

Have fun!

I think your room is pretty good, honestly. The one thing that strikes me is the placement of the round table with the lamp. Perhaps it would be better next to some seating to make a cozy reading spot. Other than that, I like it!

Oh my! What a lot of snow out there...good thing you are turning your attention to indoor pursuits. One thing is certain, you have a lot to work with here and I'm sure that you will achieve your goal. It's going to be fun to see what you do. Me? Have advice? Are you kidding me? Have you seen my place? Ha!

Hey Becky - I'm no decorator. You have some very lovely pieces of furniture there and I do like the soft color of the walls.

something that you might consider is putting those two paintings over the entertainment center on either side of it & make sure your EC is exactly in the middle of the wall. They are almost touching the border, and you have some tall things on top of your EC that threaten to block your paintings.

That's about all I can offer being as that I'm a person who doesn't re-arrange much...I can't wait to see what all the experts out there in bloggy-land have to say! It should be fun!

Becky, I love that blue room too... the colors are lovely and it has such a homey, yet still a bit stately look to it. You have good taste (or at least taste that agrees with mine;))

There are many things in your living room that I really love: the blue sofa and the plummy-colored chair that is next to it, and that drop leaf table is beautiful too. As far as arrangement- the best thing I ever did in my living room was to pull some of the furniture away from the wall. I have my sofa and love seat in an L-shape and the love seat portion extends out into the room. You can sorta see it in the last picture of this post (it shows the view into the living room from the dining room:
http://tomatosoupcake.blogspot.com/2008/01/happy-birthday-girl.html

It defined the seating area and gave the whole room a little more interest than before when I had all the furniture lined up around the walls.

I'm sure you'll come up with some wonderfully creative ideas.. can't wait to see and hear what you decide to do!☺

Love the first picture, very Victorian in feel. I like the colors, too. I am about to get rid of my burgundy colored living room in favor of a "Provence Cream" art room! Yay!!

Blessings,
Christi

Though I have never met you except through this incredible media of blogging...I don't picture you in that first room but rather in that warm cozy look of the second room.

Oh I love decorating or just rearranging things in the house. It can make it feel like a brand new room that you enjoy sitting in again and admiring. I did this a couple of weeks ago and find myself reading a book in the living room again, enjoying the cozy feeling of the rearrangement. Enjoy the process!
