All Consuming Fire

Be careful not to forget the covenant of the LORD your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the LORD your God has forbidden.  For the LORD your God is a consuming fire,
a jealous God.

As I looked over our back yard this morning
I noticed a major change from what I had
seen just two days ago.

You see on Friday Warren and Jonathan
had lit the pile of sticks and wood that
had accumulated and then they had
burned the huge pile of shrubbery which
Michael had brought back from a side job.
They also burned a large stack of tree tops
That had been there since Warren cut
a tree down earlier this year.

All together it had been a looming
presence on the back of Georgia's yard.
Today....it is nothing but few ashes.

All gone.
Consumed.

I am reminded of the verse which speaks
of a purification process by fire.
And we are told in the book of Deuternomy, verse 24
that our God is a consuming fire.
Burning up anything that comes between us and
Himself.  That's what He did when the Israelites
built a golden calf.

Can you imagine a life
totally pure and devoted to
God?

How wonderful that would be,
He is a jealous God.
He does want our attention
focused on Him.

And why shouldn't He?

And all this
from the lack of piles in our
backyard....oh my.

I have to tell you of something that happened
this week to remind me that we Christians
are all connected in Him,
whether we know each other,
or not.

In March Warren and I met a man who
told us of his wife's battle with cancer.
He is not someone we see in our daily lives
nor have I spoken to him since.

Late last week this man and his wife,
whom I have never met came to my
mind.  I prayed for them and wondered
what her condition might be.

Yesterday I learned that she passed
away Friday night, into Saturday sometime.

Now I don't know about you.
But I think the Lord laid them on my
mind at just a time that they most
needed prayer.
I don't think I was the only one
either.  I suspect a choir of intercession
was headed Heavenward
for this couple
directed by our Heavenly Father.

Remember, I had never met her.
I had no reason to think of them
since I hadn't been in contact since March.
Our God is a jealous but caring God.
I love Him.
He deserves all praise.

This is the post where I learned that
Janet is in the presence of Jesus.
It is an amazing post.
Note the name of this blog.
Consume Me From the Inside Out.
Coincidence?
Probably not....smile.
I've known of this blog writer for years
through our homeschool group...
but we are not real life friends.
I admire her from a distance, though.....
I think you'll like her too.
