Beauty at Longwood Gardens

It is amazing to me that in the midst of this HOT.... HOT
summer there was any color to be found even in these
fabulous gardens.  But, it was there.  In a big way.

I know because Mikey works there that there is constant
watering in the garden. Some days I ask him what he did
that day and his only answer is "I watered".

The team he is working with this Summer planted a whole
bunch of shrubs and trees at the entrance gate.
If you have ever planted one tree you know how much
water is required to get it established. Imagine
fifty or more new large plants!

There have been many days the
Mom part of me wants
to hold Mikey back and just tell him
it is too hot to work outside all day.
I mean the heat advisories
tell us not to be outside
unless it is absolutely necessary....
but that would never fly!
If you know Mikey you are laughing right now.
He is very focused and determined!
He loves his job.
It helps to know that the staff is very conscious
of health and safety.
There is a real awareness of the dangers
the heat can bring to bear.

We got great news just over a week ago.

Mikey was chosen to interview for the Professional
Gardener's Program. Now, this is not a guarantee
that he will be chosen for the program. I believe
they will only choose eight. However, it is yet
one more step in the goal he has set before himself.

Others that we are aware of have interviewed and not
been chosen. So reality still faces us that this is
a huge honor and the outcome far from certain.

Well, I have laundry to get to.
We had a house guest over the
weekend and I just enjoyed
spending time with her and did
very little work.

So....with more company coming this
weekend, I had better get some
things done.
Thanks for stopping by.
Come back soon!!!

Hugs,

Becky K.

I enjoyed seeing the beautiful flowers. I don't blame you for being concerned about Mikey working in the heat. Hopefully he's drinking lots of water.

Have a happy Monday!

Smiles,
Carol

Congrats to Mike and I will pray that he makes this next step with flying colors. I'm sure that he has learned tips about staying out all day in hot weather that we all wish we knew. What fun to have a houseguest over the weekend to enjoy. May the catching up on housework take hardly any time at all.

We visited a garden over the weekend ... Hershey Gardens. I have visited Hershey amusements before but never the garden. I was surprised as you that there was so much color given the heat and humidity. It takes a lot of watering to keep it that way! I wish Mikey well when he interviews for the Professional Gardener's Program.

Gorgeous gardens!!!

I have become used to Colorado mountain summers. Temps in the 70s-80s and it rains often. I cannot imagine the heat where you are! Stay cool, Becky, and best wishes for Mikey!
