A Teacher's Reward

Little faces...open wide.
Learning, laughing and sharing.

I love my co-op students!

Boys, sweaty and dirty
from a gym class...
waiting in a hallway
for a change
of class call out,
"Mrs. K, High Five!"

I oblige.
Then notice a Mom watching.
A smile on her face.
I nod, slightly embarrassed.

Forty Five minutes later one of
these students
sees me carrying a large
cd player to our class.
He offers
to carry it for me.
What did I say?
Of course, he could be a gentleman
and "Thanks so much for asking!"

Our class time came and
they eagerly sought to be
the first to identify
instruments in the orchestra.
First the woodwinds,
then the brass.
We ended with
percussion today.
A Marimba...
of all things.

They learned.
They cared.
They made my day!

Just one more week and this
co-op year is done.
Some of these young ones will
move up to the junior/senior high
classes. Some will take classes I
teach, many will not.
But, there is always the hope that
somewhere down the road of life a
song will play and they will think
back fondly to these days of learning
to appreciate music for the gift it is.

An amazing gift that connects our
soul and our emotions.

Thus I remind them...
"Oh be careful little ears..."

What does music mean to you?
Is it uplifting?
Encouraging?

Do you take time to really
enjoy it or is it just more
background to your day?

Just asking.

Music has been an important part of my life for as far back as I can remember. My mother singing around the house, piano lessons, singing in church, school choirs in high school & college, majoring in music during college, and starting the first music program at an elementary school. I love music! I enjoy turning up the radio when I'm in the car alone. It makes my spirit soar. It's a lot of fun for me to pick out songs for the playlist on my blog. I try to pick music that fits the theme of my post.
Wow, I didn't mean to go on & on!

Smiles,
Carol

Love music!

Didn't grow up being to discerning about music but now we are very careful about what we listen to...music definitely affects how we feel and we like to feel happy, peaceful and cheerful! Music that helps us focus on the Lord and His goodness is our favorite!

Music is so much a part of my life that there is a little jukebox in my head playing something all the time. It's like my own personal soundtrack. I don't really know how to explain it, except that if I stop and "tune in", I could sing or hum it for you at any time.

I love worship music, and anything that sounds bluesy, rockin', jazzy, soulful, or heartfelt. I do not have an appreciation for heavy metal. I love rap if it's clean. I love the poetry in it, the rhythm, the quickness of it, the way they play with words...but it's hard to listen to, because I find myself bouncing along to the beat, and all of a sudden, the words they're saying sink through to my brain, and I about have a heart attack. LOL. It's like, WHAT? Wait! This is not good. This is not me. It's embarrassing, sometimes, especially when my kids catch me.

Oh how I miss music. I can't play it anymore because my grandmother finds it upsetting. She, however, hears music in her mind often. Someday, I'll invest in a good set of headphones...nah, I'll just bide knowing that I have to have ears to hear her. But how I am looking forward to listening to music again!

Loved your story about the kids. I can just imagine how much they love to learn and how much they appreciate their teacher.

There are days when I'm SMART and I saturate myself in music; then there are the other days.

Thanks for asking about my health. I'll know more Tuesday.

There are certain gifts only teachers get to see. And it just warms my heart. Such a blessing. I love that you're in a co-op. That's how I want to educate my children!

Love music! All kinds! Except the rap!

Music somehow reaches into the soul in a way spoken words cannot!

Music has been an important part of my life for longer than I can remember. My mother has told me of when I was about 2 years old, I walked around singing Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog". I love a wide variety of music and I like to listen to music that fits my mood. I find that if I listen to something with a really good drum beat when I am angry, it helps me to calm down. I like to listen to instrumental or stuff like Susan Boyle when I want to just relax. My favorite music is praise and worship. I love to sing along in praise to my Lord.
