I Have the Best Brother!

For Christmas my brother, Allan,
gave our oldest, Jonathan, a very
special gift.

It was a fly fishing rod that had
been my Dad's, then Allan's.
Having grown up on one of the most
famous fly fishing streams, Penn's
Creek, my Dad and Brother were often
found "out back" at the creek.

With this rod came a promise to
teach Jonathan to use it and to
tie his own flies.

A toolbox filled with everything
needed to get started was also
given.

Since then there have been emails
with links to web sites that teach
various things about tying flies or
casting correctly.

Last week Jonathan got to go to his
own private Fly Fishing Camp at his
Aunt and Uncle's home.

Uncle Allan spent hours with Jonathan
learning how to determine what flies
were hatching and then how to duplicate
them.

Unfortunately, there was a lot of rain
so the streams were higher and muddier
than they would have liked but I can tell
you that my son loved this time with his
Uncle Allan.

I wish I had pictures to show you...but
since my happy camera and I were here
busy with other things I
have nothing to share.

Aunt Bev has been struggling with a family
health crisis and has our biggest love and
prayers. We hope that things settle down
soon for those involved there...Bev.
Feel free to pray too, Dear Readers.

While we parents are to be the primary
influencers of our children it is such a
blessing to have others take an interest in
our young people and share their gifts and
talents. My brother and his wife have truly
blessed us by loving our children.

I hope that you'll take notice of the gifts
and talents of those in your friends and
family circle. What a rich resource for
building knowledge. Ours and that of our
children.

These relationships are so precious!

Have a great day!

Uncles...they can be amazing. This post reminds me of one that Miss Sandy of Quill Cottage recently did about her uncle and the wonderful influence he was on her life. My uncles have all been an influence on mine, too, now that I think about it.

I'm sure that Uncle Allan is equally blessed by his wonderful nephew.

It does take our families and also our wonderful friends.

Becky, is your daughter feeling better about her friend these days...I remember her being upset a bit. I hope all is better.

I love reading about your family. I was raised as an only child (even though I have lots of step-silblings, etc---long story) but there was a feeling of lonliness not having siblings to share with...however, I was so blessed to have wonderful Aunts, Uncles, grandparents, and cousins to share some quality family time with...I'll always be grateful!
