My Favorite Place!

Eleven years ago we stopped on
impulse at this island because I
had read book after book that Eugenia
Price had written about it and the
people who were the original inhabitants
of St. Simon's Island, Georgia.

For me, that hour was so well spent.
As some people are impacted by meeting
a celebrity...walking on this sandy soil
and seeing the final resting places of those
characters so dear was very impactful.

We determined that should we ever get the
chance again we would return. The day we
visited eleven years ago the church was closed
for the day. I very much wanted to visit inside.
My dear husband and daughter walked ahead...

The Original Rector of the church, Anson Dodge,
was at the center of one of the main storylines.
His life, both the good and the hard, losing a child
at the age of three...were told so poignantly that you
felt you actually knew these people. Such a great
writer was Eugenia Price.

The stained glass windows in the church were purchased
by his family in his honor. They are simply stunning.

I took one picture and then a gentleman of the church
joined us to talk about the church, its history and
the construction of it. We left without getting any
further pictures inside.

However, we walked around the cemetary for a very long
time, enjoying the beauty of the ancient trees, the
hibiscus covered with moss, and the memories that swirled
with the recognition of each name.

Across the street from Christ Church is a nature trail which ends with a Memorial for John and Charles Wesley. It is obvious in this part of Georgia that they are considered to be very important in the bringing of the gospel to this land. It is interesting to note that they do not consider themselves to have truly come to know the Lord until they had been here for some time. Even though, it was as missionaries that they came. The Lord truly does work in mysterious ways.

Chelsea and I enjoyed reading the story on each side of this memorial.

As we left the island a feeling of such contentment and joy was overwhelming. If this had been the entire extent of this vacation...for me it would have been enough.

However, for the kids it is a different story...so we will continue.

Mikey has an awful cold and thanks to some Nyquil slept in the car the whole time we explored St. Simon's Island. I am hoping he feels better today. There is a beach to explore!

As we arrived here after dark, this was our first view of it this morning.

Have a great day!

Becky, This looks lovely. Your photos are very good too. I have been toying with the idea of a trip to Savannah this year, and will put this place on the list as well.

Looks like you are having a great time on your vacation. I was also surfing around your site and read your posts on Marriage and Finance. Our church showed the movie Fireproof and we are taking the 40 day Love Dare. It deals with the same things you talked about. Blessings.
