It Got Very Dark...Really Fast!

I have been waiting.
To see the movie Valkyrie.

Warren and the boys watched it.
I did not, but ordered it from
Netflix so I could.

Last night was the time.
Jonathan and Chelsea were out
of town with the Grandmothers.
Warren, Mikey and I sat down to
watch it. We were looking
forward to an evening together.

The previews were tolerated and
then came the opportunity to
press play. Warren pushed the
button...WHAM! The lights and
television went out!
Silence followed....unless you
count the non-stop thunder.

Really, I have never heard it so
continuous. All over the sky.
Lightning flashed and the wind
came in a huge gust. Apparently
in this one major gust a tree
on our street pulled down wires.

After the storm quieted a bit,
Warren drove the neighborhood and
found wires across the road.

We called the power company and let
them know.

Across the street one of the trees
which daily serves as shade to the cows
crashed to the ground.

Thankfully the cows were in the barn.
These pictures were taken today, well
after the storm.

After the storm the cows came running to
see what had happened. It was so funny to
see them gather around it as if they
could not believe it!
I kid you not!

Anyway, back to the time while the lights were out...
which lasted from around 7 pm until 2:20 am.

Sirens sounded.
It was frightening to be
unable to check the usual
sources for information.
No TV, No Internet.
Warren turned on his scanner.
We heard about stray dogs and
domestic disputes on the police
channel. Nothing about the
weather.

One had to wonder if there
were going to be tornadoes.

I broke out the huge candles that had been so recently
poured out of the scrap soy wax. I never thought there
would be a good excuse to use it before Fall.

But, here it was.

Just the opportunity to light
this newest creation.

And since it worked so well last
evening, it is burning again as I
write tonight.
Just because.
Candlelight adds so much atmosphere
to a room. In this case, there are
three wicks throwing the lovely scent
of a country garden. Ahhh...sweet!

After the storm, the sky remained
very interesting. I took some shots
of the sunset. Even as I took these
just to the right were sharp strikes of
lightning. What an angry sky.

These photos were all taken within a five to ten minute period
until the lightning scared me back into the house.
It was freaky.

Hope you are not having bad weather
where you are...but I know it has been
pretty widespread...so if you are having
storms, please stay safe.
Don't take any chances.

Do as I say...not as I do!

See you later!

OH, Becky...those skies in the last photos are stunning...I could look at those all day! It's always amazing the sky after a storm and harmony returns. Had to laugh a little at the cows and the fallen tree--they don't seem bothered at all that they lost one of their trees...LOL! Oh, love the new banner--so summery :o) Happy Day ((HUGS))

Your photos are beautiful! Thunder & lightening is very exciting to me. It thrills me to see the lightening and the thunder and noise scares me. I am always very careful during storms and yet I long to run out there and stand in the middle of it! I won't though. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love yours and I will become a follower.

We've had our share of storms this summer -- luckily no damage -- our DD who lives in Minneapolis spent the afternoon in her work basement -- a tornado touched down IN downtown Minneapolis!

Storms (and no lights) are no fun!

Hi Becky, great pictures and what an ordeal. The candle is soooo lovely.

We are having almost daily afternoon storms but this is normal for a Florida August. I have to shut my computer down just about every afternoon. Acccckkkkk.

Where is Fall.......ha!

I'm happy you and your family are safe! We too have had terrible storms of late, but more rain and lightening than high winds, thank goodness. And what a perfect excuse to burn that sweet candle of yours.

We had a storm last night as well. Fortunately, we didn't lose electricity this time. We lost our electricity in a storm last week for about the same length of time for the same reason. Last night our storm was fairly mild, although it started with a very loud and unexpected clap of thunder that made us all jump!

We had tornado warnings last night. It was quite frightening because I was at home alone when the sirens went off, the sky turned green, and the meteorologist on the local channel said the Doppler indicated tornado was heading for our part of the country.

Thankfully we didn't even have wind damage but I'd already storm proofed the deck and the front porch.

Now that is some wicked weather. Thunderstorms around here are usually pretty brief -- they blow out to sea or up the coast.

But I remember storms in Illinois and Pittsburgh -- they'd go on for hours, just rumbling along.

Good thing you were prepared with candles! But it's awfully HOT when the lights go out-- no AC, and not even a FAN.
Great sky shots!!

Wow, that was quite a storm. It made me laugh when I saw the picture of the cows checking out the fallen tree. On another note, I have been enjoying your blog. I found it through Carol at Carol's Heirloom Collections. Have a wonderful day! Elena
