Geese

I've been hearing geese.
Lots of them.
They are gleaning each evening in the
field across the street.

They are amazing to watch as they come
a bit closer to us each day.
Very methodical as they started at the
top of the hill

and have now eaten about
halfway down .....
can't wait to see if they are back today.

The corn was cut just over a week ago
and I guess even today's technology isn't
pristine.  So the geese are happy!

I should walk down to the local pond
and see if they are hanging out there too.

It is so nice to have them visit but in areas
where they live it is pretty nasty to walk...
if you know what I mean.

Oh!  And I am hoping to get some
sweet swan photos today.
I found a pond that I can
get to where they are living.
Yay!!

Who doesn't enjoy a crisp
Fall evening....
wait, Georgia, don't answer
that.  Summer will be back before we know it!

The smoke bush.
Strutting its smokey "flower".

 Nothing came of these clouds
but they tried their best to
look ominous.

Such pretty colors
in the Autumn sky.

If you look carefully
you'll see the geese headed out
to their next destination.

Thanks so much to Buttercup (Counts Her Blessings) for writing a post
and to those who promoted it on Facebook!!
We've sold two candles so far.
I know this will go up as more people
learn about it and as we get closer to Christmas.
What a wonderful gift for that person who
appreciates good causes.
They get a sweet, sweet candle as well
as the satisfaction that money
has been given in their name as well.

One more thing....
My friend, Susanna and a friend are
holding an online auction for another family adopting
from Eastern Europe.
You can find the auction at
this blog, Hidden Treasures, and there you can
find a $75 gift certificate

Everything starts at $5.
Hope you'll pop by and take a peek.
So many good causes...
limited funds.
But, if everyone does a little bit
it adds up to greatness.

Have a great day!!

Fall Nesting...I am So Ready!!!!

Autumn...

Crisp,
Alive,
Invigorating!
Football,
Blue Skies
Hay Bales!

Autumn is also...

School,
Apples,
Pumpkins!
S'mores,
Starry Skies,
Campfires!

This fabulous season is
nearly upon us.

To this I throw my arms wide
open and say,

"Welcome!
I've been waiting all year
to see you again!"

For more posts about Fall or Autumn
anticipation visit Melissa at The Inspired Room.
She is getting us excited about Fall Nesting.
I didn't need much help to get mentally ready,
however, my home needs some Fall decor if it is
going to reflect the excitement I feel.

I'll have to get on that!

The signs of Autumn are all around us...

This morning there was a mist over the cornfield.
It was so lovely...there are just so many
things to love about this terribly short season.

Before we know it geese will be winging their way
south, singing as they go.

I look forward to seeing what you have posted about
regarding Fall.

Kitties Share Foot Warmer

This is my contribution to the Outdoor Wednesday
Party at Susan's A Southern Daydreamer.
Thanks Susan!

There is a single cement tile outside the front door.
Until this morning it was merely a place for me to stand
as I take the dogs out each day.

This morning it was in the 50's when it was time for
the dogs to make their morning trip around the front
yard.

The cats love to sneak out as we let the dogs out.
We let them think they are pulling one over on us
and they disappear into the flower beds.

Until today.

Apparently the grass was cold...and wet.
They chose to share this small cement tile
which is warmer and drier than anything else
around it.

Finally Tidbit left Ollie alone
on the safety and warmth of the cement
to get on with her day...

Fast forward to this afternoon when
a scream was heard coming
from our garage.

The "screamer" was me.

One of these crazy kitties had brought
home a present
and it was alive.

I caught sight of it as it dashed away from
my feet and into a pile of Warren's "treasures".

Tidbit chased after it and kept meowing, but this
bunny tucked itself right into this spot where it
was safe.

I offered the little thing a carrot...no success.

My family says that is a thing of fairy tales
and laughed at my attempts...after the fact.

So, I opened the garage door and went away for a
couple of hours. Warren came home and I finally
told him about the bunny. We figured it would have
made a break for it.
But no!
It was still where
I had last seen it.

Mikey got it out for us.
He did use a t-shirt just to
be safe...

Poor guy,
I made him wait until
I got these shots.

I also made him hold baby bunny
for this picture.

Then he took it outside and set it free
where it ran full force for the corn
field across the street.
Last we saw it
all was well.

I do hope this little one has learned
its lesson about kitties.
They are sneaky, not to be trusted,
and they HATE to get their feet
cold and wet!

On Growing Up...

This was Chelsea last year with one of her leaf
piles.

Chelsea this year...

She is growing up!

I stopped for a few minutes this morning
to remember what it was I loved about Fall
when I was a child.

If I close my eyes I can still smell the
fall in the air as my brother and I, rakes
in grubby hands, ran across the road to a
perfect place. It was a row of maple trees.
Large trees. These put down many leaves over
a large area. I can see us taking those rakes
and making extravagant pathways through the
leaves. We would run these pathways, laughing
and giggling until our legs would fall out from
under us...

Those were the days.

I remember when it was fun to make little leaf
piles alongside the road and burn the impertinent
little things. So often they resisted this by
issuing great billows of smoke. Just perfect for
pretending to send smoke signals.

Today, I am grown. I would love to go out and
play in the leaves. Unfortunately, it has been
rainy and we must wait for the leaves to dry out
before attempting to gather and burn them.

Ah, but when we do...the sweet smell of Fall will
tickle our noses with delight. First that sweet
smell of the leaves themselves and then the
gentle smell of the smoke as they burn.

I am still that little girl who enjoyed making
patterns in the leaves. I just have to work
a little harder to take the time!

Enjoy the day wherever you are and take a
little time for you today!

Love,
Becky K.

The Show on Saturday

We enjoyed doing the show on Saturday. The location was great. I should have gotten more pictures of the surroundings but I just snapped a few as we were setting up and then it got busy. It was a very good day. This was the first time Willow Valley Resorts has tried anything like this so there were only about 17 vendors. But they had the Fire Company out with the Smoke House and Fire Trucks, there were tethered hot air balloon rides and scarecrow making, gingerbread boy decorating and pumpkin painting. The guests really seemed to be enjoying themselves.

We had to carry our bins of candles quite a ways to our position beside the pond. We were told we would have shade but as often happens this proved to be wrong. I searched for another way to say that...but wrong is the only way. We ended up mid afternoon with melted candles and had to move to another spot and had sold enough by that point to consolidate to just one table....thankfully!

Here are the pictures I snapped while we set up.

See the Christmas Pitchers?
They are all gone.
I have to check our container storage to see if we
have any more to make up.

The rooster candle is gone too...along with our last coke. Thankfully we have plenty of supplies to make more coke candles because they are one of our biggest sellers. Our customers say they can "smell" the fizz! They also love the ice cubes that we put in them. One prior customer was at our stand as a man was debating the purchase of this coke candle. She told him about her daughter's coke candle that has never been lit but keeps her daughter's room smelling sweet all of the time.

I really debated putting any Christmas items out in October on a 86 degree day but I am glad we did.

This is my friend, Beverly, who makes the candles with me.

We walked up this pathway with bin after bin of candles. I was so hot before we even started!

But isn't it beautiful??

Well, I need to check on the kids and see if they are hard at work yet...I have my doubts. Hope you enjoyed the quick pics of the show. We did a simplified set-up because of the outdoor location and it did not seem to hurt sales at all. It was so nice to have repeat customers so happy to find us. We also made many new friends who are from other parts of the state or neighboring states. They asked for our web address so you never know...
Have a great Day!
